World Poker Tour picked as Sports Brand License of the Year

Last Wednesday the International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA) awarded the World Poker Tour as the Best Sports Brand License of the Year for 2005. The distinction was given at the LIMA International Licensing Excellence Awards. The event was held in New York, and it is a chance to recognize the industry’s leading licensed products.’this singular award from LIMA — the most prestigious in the licensing industry — is a testament to the enduring strength of the brand that WPT Enterprises has built and to the incredible partners who have come on board to creatively leverage the World Poker Tour’s consumer and TV viewer loyalty,” said Andrea Green, Vice President of Global Consumer Products.

Aside from getting the Best Sports Brand License of the Year, two World Poker partners tour was also cited for its expertise particularly. Hands-On Mobile and MDI/Scientific Games were both nominated for Best Sports Brand Licensee for, respectively, the WPT Mobiles Games and Scratch Off Lottery Tickets.

The LIMA mounts the annual tribute as a venue for the recognition of the licensing industry’s best and brightest companies and endeavors. In fact, the LIMA Licensing Excellence Awards are considered as the industry’s most prestigious venue for the recognition of outstanding achievements.

The World Poker Tour was first seen on the Travel Channel in March 2003 and initially started a licensing program that, at first, only dealt with apparel and poker-related merchandise. Eventually, the company expanded to include lifestyle goods from jewelry to bar mirrors to video games and even mobile phone content.
