The Online Gambling Ban & The Upcoming American Election

In my view, the upcoming 2006 election will move America towards the center. The moderates in the country will issue a referendum against the Republicans, making it clear that we won’t tolerate right-wing extremism.

In the 2004 election, the Republicans, and Mr. Bush, claimed to have received political capital from the public. Well, they’ve overspent their political captial. And the recent move to ban online gambling is just one of many symptoms of a political party that’s on its way out of power…grasping at straws…taking radical action.

The problem is that the Republicans don’t realize that they’ve lost the center. The Democrats have recaptured the center. And they will continue to control the center, so long as the Republicans are busy banning popular (and largely innocuous) American activities. For the people?

  1. I’m not so sure that the Democrats are near any center. You might want to take a look at this recent article by Fred Barnes at The Weekly Standard if you have any conservative leanings: http://www.theweeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/000/012/847bctqh.asp

In short, as much as Bush has disappointed me with respect to the recent gambling bill, I’m not ready to jump ship, especially since I believe we’re at war with Islamic fascists and I believe that the Democrats have no desire to face up to this fact.
