New Poker TV Show Goes on Air

Poker enthusiasts now have a new show to watch every week. Face the Ace finally premiered on NBC last Saturday.

The show has a unique approach in that it features an amateur poker player playing against a pro. The pros playing here are Full Tilt stars such as Phil Ivey, Chris “Jesus” Ferguson, Erick Lindgren, Mike Matusow, Gus Hansen and Patrik Antonius. The game here is sort of a deal or no deal style.

On the Face the Ace show, amateur poker players face off in a heads-up match against one pro. If the amateur wins, he chooses between taking the $40,000 or moving on to play another pro for $200,000. A third option is to risk all by facing off against one final pro for a chance to win $1 million. It has always been proven that an all or nothing style of TV show keeps the audience excited and Face the Ace is sure to live up to this.

NBC and Full Tilt Poker produced this show on primetime television in an effort to keep the enthusiasm of fans while the World of Series of Poker (WSOP) is not around. Although ratings during the initial episode were not very strong, bigwigs in the poker industry are positive Face the Ace will gain a big following and endure for a long time.

While it will be great to see the pros displaying their skills on TV, it’s also thrilling to find out if an amateur has a chance of beating the pros. One can never know. The show might just be able to produce a potential pro poker player going forward.
