Heads up SNGs

My bankroll has taken some uncomfortable swings in the past two weeks, and I’ve decided to go back to something that I have found to be very steady profit, the 4-person heads up sit-n-gos on pokerstars.co.uk

I wrote a post about it a few months ago, check that out here. They are basically winner take all tournaments in a 2 bracket-formation. So when you win 2 games you win $30 (in a $10 SNG). This is a better return as opposed to playing 2 seperate 1v1 games, where spend twice the rake and win $10 less.

The average player is very poor. They may have read a few articles on heads up play, but the consensus seems to be that extreme aggression wins … which isn’t completely true. Sure, you have to play much more loose-aggressive heads up, but automatically going all in with top pair on the flop is just asking for your opponent to wait you out.

So far I’ve played 11 heads up matches and taken 1st in 5 of them for a total profit of $84. If a player can keep his win percentage above or near 50% he will more than double his investment. You have to win slightly more than 1 in 4 to stay above even, which shouldn’t be a stretch against these opponents. Good luck out there, and for some more heads up material, check out this article.

I've been playing poker for almost four years now (well before it was legal for me, woops!) Besides poker I enjoy playing the guitar and I'm very enthusiastic about pursuing Dentistry as a career. I'm currently at The Ohio State Univeristy studying Microbiology, living with three of my close friends. I'm dating a lovely girl from Australia and am looking forward to the oppurtunity to study abroad over there as well.
