Eight in a row

This weekend I my friend bought back into online poker and I asked if he would send me $5.25 to my pokerstars account (Pokerstars allows you to transfer funds) so I could attempt to play one of the $5.00+$0.25 heads up matches I raved about earlier. Anyway, I won 8 heads up matches in a row and was up to $75 after 4 games (I played a $10 on my last match). I sent Ben back his $5.25 and now I have a little bankroll to work with, talk about starting from scratch!

Once you find the style that your opponent is playing it is easy to adapt and take advantage of it. I was playing against an opponent who only bet the river – and when he did he bet huge… He showed KK once and I another time a rivered flush, and I warned him that his risk+reward was really bad because I would only call when I had him beat. He didn’t seem to understand what I meant, but I went on to explain that he was betting $2800 chips to win a $200 pot, and that’s not a very good risk-reward scheme.

Anyway, he didn’t take my advice, and I called a raise with AJ later in the match. The flop was 10 8 10 … A … 6 and we checked it all the way. I was just waiting for him to blow up, and he did! He immediately went all in for his last $2400 on the river of a $400 pot and I called, he showed KK and lost the match. Oh well, I can only try to teach the masses. Good luck!

I've been playing poker for almost four years now (well before it was legal for me, woops!) Besides poker I enjoy playing the guitar and I'm very enthusiastic about pursuing Dentistry as a career. I'm currently at The Ohio State Univeristy studying Microbiology, living with three of my close friends. I'm dating a lovely girl from Australia and am looking forward to the oppurtunity to study abroad over there as well.

  1. Sounds like you had better luck than me in heads-up and better skills for that matter haha. That guy deserved it.

I never knew it only took that much to start and get a bankroll going. I’ve always been around the online tournament scene and rarely in heads-up.
