Englishman James Dempsey secured a memorable title this weekend as he won the World Poker Tour’s Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic Sunday at Bellagio.
It was an incredible day for him. Not only for the pride of winning, but for the rather significant prize money of $821,612. As if beating over 400 poker players wasn’t enough, he has had an amazing pay day as well!
There is no doubt that it was a special event at the Bellagio too as it was the 10th anniversary of the World Poker Tour. Dempsey’s win – which came at the expense of five other players during the final table – will therefore go down in history.
In terms of some background on Dempsey, he has been playing poker professionally for 8 years now and at 29-years-old it seems fair to say that he has hit the height of his powers.
He has earned a decent living from it too. Thanks to the victory here, he has now managed career earnings of around $1.6 million, which tells you how big this Bellagio victory was for him.
Dempsey – who is known in UK poker online as Flushy – now has a seat in the World Poker Tour Champions Club, something he is bound to cherish forever.
Another significant factor of this World Poker Classic was the performance of Vanessa Selbst. She was on the final table alongside Dempsey as she looked to become the first women to win an open World Poker Tour Main Event.
The 27-year-old American is bound to be back though as she is an extremely ambitious poker player and one with earnings of over $3.5m from live tournaments.
Who knows, maybe she will have plenty more texas holdem poker battles with Dempsey down the years?
Speaking of the Englishman once again, it is fair to say that this weekend belonged to him and that he deserves to celebrate in style.
